Anoka-Hennepin schools earn National Blue Ribbon Schools distinction
Roosevelt Middle School and McKinley Elementary School were two of six Minnesota schools recognized by the U . S . Department of Education as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2021 . This honor is based on the school ’ s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups .
A total of 325 schools earned the National Blue Ribbon Schools distinction nationwide . Six schools from Minnesota were recognized and Anoka- Hennepin was the only district with more than one school to receive the honor .

Schools are honored in one of two performance categories , based on all student scores , student group scores and graduation rates :

The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators , families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content . “ When families , students and staff work together we can accomplish great things and this is a strong example of that taking shape in our community ,” Law said .
Now in its 39th year , the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed recognition on more than 9,000 schools . n
National Merit Scholarship program names three district semifinalists
Three Anoka-Hennepin seniors have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists , and each are now in the running to earn one of the 7,500 scholarships of up to $ 2,500 for college .
The students : Andover High School senior Conor Jolly ; Blaine High School senior Carter Anderson ; Champlin Park High School senior Claire Koch .
The three Anoka-Hennepin students join approximately 16,000 semifinalists nationally who have the opportunity to become National Merit Scholars .
To become a semifinalist , high school juniors entered the National Merit Scholarship program by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT test , which served as an initial screen of program entrants . The nationwide pool of semifinalists , representing less than one percent of U . S . high school seniors , includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state .
Next , the three semifinalists will submit a detailed scholarship
Exemplary High-Performing Schools are among their state ’ s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests .
Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing Schools are among their state ’ s highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school ’ s student groups and all students .

National Merit Scholarship winners of 2022 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July . Every finalist will compete for one 2,500 National Merit Scholarship and about 1,000 corporatesponsored scholarships will be provided in addition to some 4,000 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards who attend a sponsor institution . n

Relationships form a foundation for student success

Former President Theodore Roosevelt is quoted with an important reminder for our schools as students return to full-in person learning five days a week this school year : “ People don ’ t care how much you know , until they know how much you care .”
Protecting the health and safety of staff , students and the community continues to be the first priority of the school district . Maintaining in-person learning five-daysa-week throughout the entire school year is our goal . Whether providing a bus ride , a school lunch , health services , a clean classroom , instruction or any of the functions behind the scenes that support this work , our employees continue to make a difference . Whatever is needed , our staff is working hard to provide the best education possible .
Anoka-Hennepin Schools are focused on providing a safe and welcoming environment for every student . Schools work to promote a culture of caring to ensure student safety and wellbeing . Strong relationships between staff , students , and families serve as a source of stability during a
