A Different Approach to the Yearly Appraisals
In the past years, FTIAS had introduced
the “360 degree feedback” system in its
appraisals, which allows staff members to
receive feedback not only from their direct
superiors but also from their colleagues,
such as peers and direct reports, hence
receiving an appraisal that is inclusive of
different point of views. However, FTIAS wanted
to improve further the way this survey was being
utilised. Thus the Human Resources and
Corporate Communications team was tasked
with working on an improved version of the
survey, which entailed, doing an initial review
on the different types of 360 degree feedback
procedures available, organising focus
groups (to gather staff members’ opinions),
and pilot testing the new version.
Following this, the survey was then
presented to top management who came
up with further suggestions on how the
survey could be optimised and rendered as
user-friendly as possible, and these
suggestions were taken on board and
implemented accordingly. The survey is now
quicker to complete as one will be guided
by a number of questions that ask you to
rate your colleague on specific work-related
competencies.
