the world of work has never stopped a job that wasn ’ t even invented when you started school . There are lots of exciting opportunities out there for everyone and you could even be part of creating the change ! Everyone wants to have a happy future . While you ’ re at school it ’ s important to start finding out about these opportunities , what might be right for you and how to get into the career that interests you .
Career Management Skills
These are the skills you need to make good career decisions and they come under the four themes below . Throughout school and beyond , you ’ ll continue to use these skills to find your way in the world of work , and that ’ s why they ’ re so important .
How I can help you
Skills Development Scotland is here to help you understand the world of work and to develop your career management skills as you move through school .
We do this through our online service , My World of Work , and in person through myself , your school career adviser .
You might meet me :
• At a one to one appointment
• With your class at a group activity
• At careers events
I might speak to you about :
• Finding out about yourself , your strengths and skills
• Making subject choices
• Different types of careers and how to research them
• Developing the types of skills that are useful in a job
• Routes into careers including apprenticeships
• Building and developing your networks
• Creating CVs
• Making applications and applying for courses
