Bruce arrived just as the machine was ready, and James arrived as Bruce and I were just about defrosted by the fire and had half-finished our coffees. We set off just after ten and although it was still cold, the sheer physical work of steering our beasts through corner after corner kept us warm. The road was affected by the fires of last summer, edge markers were destroyed and some speed advisory signs were damaged. There were also a few short sections that had been resealed and a lot of loose gravel left behind. Cann River…The two Beemers didn’t want anything to do with the Suzi. But at least it was well signposted, so no big drama. We passed a Toyota ute with what appeared to be a broken axle being nursed down the road at about 30km/h, I hope he made it OK. Found a decent food/coffee stop in Orbost this time. We took the Monaro Highway from Cann River to Bombala where one fat farker left the other two to head down Brown Mountain while I went back down Mt Darragh and Myrtle Mountain Roads to Candelo. A great day out was had by all three of us. A Soggy Start to Blanket Run for Vinnie’s Winter Appeal Saturday 31st May dawned and the rain was falling, but if the cold and homeless people of the Valley were getting wet then so were we. Several riders ventured down to Nick’s Café at Tura Woolies in the wet and more arrived in cars before setting off for Bega Vinnies, where a sausage sizzle was under way. Blanket donations were a plenty, with many being made prior to the ride. Due to the weather numbers were down but we still managed a profit of $40.40 which will be donated to Vinnies next week. Presentation of the blankets to Vinnies Thanks goes to all those who braved the weather, to Vinnies for lending us their BBQ and to Peter Turner of the Grand Hotel for supplying the urn. Some of the members enjoying a snag and a chat at the Vinnies Winter Appeal Blanket Run.
