This spring , keep an eye out for Glenview ’ s newest team member in the parks — Parkasso . Parkasso is a Turf Tank — a cutting-edge , GPS-enabled robot that paints athletic field lines with laser-sharp precision while using half the paint of traditional methods . The Turf Tank doesn ’ t just make straighter lines faster — it frees up staff to tackle other park improvement projects .
To make the new “ robot ” truly part of the team , Park District staff invited residents to suggest names through a social media poll . After a very close vote , Parkasso emerged as the winning name .
In one season , there are more than 30 to 40 fields to paint in Glenview , from Attea Fields to the softball diamonds at Community Park West . The
Turf Tank ’ s advanced technology has transformed field striping into a fast , efficient , precise process .
“ Depending on the type and size of the field , striping using the Turf Tank can take less than a day with one staff person — something that used to take two to three days with several staff members ,” said Andy Yeaman , Assistant Superintendent of Parks and Grounds .
Staff set up the Turf Tank and , with some monitoring , let it handle the striping . The process delivers greater accuracy and quality compared to traditional walk-behind striping methods .
