P7 Transition Evening
This month Marr was excited to host our annual P7 Transition Evening – giving the opportunity for P7s from our feeder primary schools and their families to visit the school and learn more about what we do here .
The P7 transition evening was a huge success as each parent got a tour around 6 different subjects of the school for 5 minutes each and each class had lots of different things set up for visitors to try , for example , in History there was a WW2 set made out of cardboard and plastic soldiers - each capturing a big moment throughout history . The Business Department had Excel activities , WordWall tasks , typing tests , quizzes and videos showing examples of students work set up all round the room .
People from S1 all the way to S6 got to help at the event . The event was oraginsed by Mr Hobson , Pupil Support and the Guidance team who all did a brilliant job as the parents got a good grip of what secondary school would be like for their children . Many teachers contributed too , which made it a great night . We had over 400 people attend and the feedback was really positive with everyone enjoying the evening and getting a good feel for the school .
It was lovely getting to know the P7s as they were keen to learn about the different subjects that all the teachers had to offer . We can ’ t wait to welcome them to the school next year .
Our next transition activities are : Active Schools sports transition afternoons in May , P6 Modern Languages and DYW day in May , and two P7 days in June and a P6 book festival , run by the English dept .
Duke of Edinburgh Awards
This month saw the return of the annual South Ayrshire DofE Awards . There was a great turnout from Marr College as always and former pupil Eilidh McDonald , gave an inspiring presentation on her journey towards achieving the Gold Award .
Well done to all award winners and sincere thanks to Mrs Maxwell and the DofE team for all their hard working in providing this invaluable opportunity for our young people .
