Modern Languages Live Cooking
Written by Eva Mackinnon , S5
On the 31 st January , a group of Higher Spanish , Higher French and Advanced Higher students , along with Mrs . Ledingham and Mrs . Mancini , went on a trip to the Broadcroft Hotel in Kirkintilloch . We took part in a French / Spanish food tasting session and a live cooking class by the French Head Chef of the hotel .
We left school at 9:45am as it was around an hour to get there on the bus . For our starter / main , the dishes were ham & cheese filled croissants , escargot , paella and frogs ’ legs ( don ' t worry , the legs actually tasted like chicken tenders !) Then , the chef introduced himself and gave us a bit about his background and how he ended up in Scotland ( it was actually a really sweet love story with his now wife !) Next , we had our dessert dishes which were churros , crepes and an apple tart dish .
Later , Connie volunteered to assist the chef on making more crepes and Heidi helped with the preparation of the different fruits to go in them - we had fruits like passionfruit , pineapple and blueberries . We got home just as the bell went at the end of the day so we made good time . The trip was enjoyed by everyone and thanks to Mrs . Ledingham for organising it all .
Purple Friday Bake-Off Returns
Marr College celebrated Purple Friday with a flourish of culinary creativity and community spirit , as the Marr Allies group hosted a ' Love is Love ' themed bake-off . Staff and students came together , both as bakers and judges – with each student attending the event given the opportunity to taste each cake and cast a vote for their winner . The event was more than just a celebration of baking prowess ; it was a vibrant statement of inclusivity and acceptance .
Marr Allies merchandise was also available for sale ! After a close competition Mrs Morton was crowned the bake-off champion for the 2 nd year in a row . Ms McKenzie took 2 nd place .
