there because they were simply gorgeous. I bet there is no
other place where you can taste how rich a chocolate cake is,
how wonderfully creamy a fruit pavlova is, and most
importantly how heavenly a banoffee pie is! For your
information, banoffee pie is made of whipped cream,
banana, toffee, and crumbled biscuits. I had it twice and I
miss it so badly!
Another café that’s worth a visit is Ciao Ciao, located near the
Durham Bus Station and opposite Starbucks. Its name
sounds kind of fancy and Italian, right? The reason why I was
attracted and decided to eat there was because there was a
sign saying, “The Best Café in Durham 2016” on the window.
Since it offers both Greek and Italian cuisine, I tried one
Greek dessert called bougatsa – creamy custard wrapped
inside golden brown filo pastry, which is obviously the most
tempting dessert in the entire world! Apart from that, I also
tried a piece of apple pie and a piece of carrot cake; they
were all incredibly delicious and made with fresh and quality
ingredients. The coffee there was Mediterranean-style and I
wish I could grab the coffee they make every day, but I can
only get Pacific Coffee at the University… Ciao Ciao is most
welcome to set up a branch in Hong Kong, and I promise I
would literally go there every day!
I bet you might be thinking that I gained a lot of weight after
those 70 days, but I am happy to report that I didn’t, which
surprised me a lot too! Of course I know we can still find nice
cafés and restaurants in Hong Kong, too, but I think it is the
slow pace of life and the ambience in Durham that
enchanted me; I could just sit down and spend a simple but
nice afternoon at a café, which we would rarely do in Hong
Kong. Anyway, Durham is really a good place to stay and
visit. I’m sure you will fall in love with it just like I did.
