FEATURED IT OF THE MONTH Oliver Wijayapala | USA Oliver was born and raised in San Francisco, United States. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Drama and Education from Middlebury College in Vermont. He enjoys exploring new cities, practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and talking about education policies and pedagogies with aspiring educators. 01 Although Oliver grew up in San Francisco, his mother is from the Philippines, and his father is from Sri Lanka. 01 02 02 Oliver used to fight many fires and respond to car accidents as a firefighter with the Middle- bury Fire Department. 03 Oliver used to work as a baris- ta. He loves the smell of coffee, and coffee is his favorite ice cream flavor. However, he does not like to drink coffee. 02 04 Oliver knows how to play the piano and harmonica, but he also has plans to master the vi- olin in order to join a mariachi band, a type of performance from Western Mexico. 04 05 05 05 Oliver participated in many as- pects of theatre as an actor, di- rector, playwright, and lighting designer. 06 He was an exchange student at Chinese University of Hong Kong and Capital Normal Uni- versity in Beijing. 05 06 07 In an ideal world, Oliver would like to be fluent in English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog, Bisaya, Sinhalese, and American Sign Language. 5 FEBRUARY 2018
