EDITOR’S NOTE
Belinda Zhou
International Tutor
I hope you all had a lovely Lunar New Year with your family and an auspicious beginning to the
Year of the Dog. You can read about how the International Tutors and their student buddies cele-
brated with a very early new year’s dinner had at Tai Po Market Cooked Food Centre, which served
as an opportunity for the students to expose us to Cantonese cuisine, both savoury and sweet.
For the February issue of the newsletter, students wrote about the theme “heroes and inspirations”,
once again creating a rich variety of articles for you to read. Opening the student-written of the
newsletter is Mike’s piece about daydreaming and the inspiration that it has brought him through-
out his life. Following that, we have Yetta’s reflections on her trip to Nepal with the Education Uni-
versity’s December 2017 leadership programme. During her time there, she and her peers came to
rethink the way they lead their lives and the true meaning of happiness.
Following that, classmates Ella and Sing write about how their university studies have impacted
that way they think about their approaches to teaching English to primary school students. Ella
discusses both challenges and triumphs she has faced in the classroom, whereas Sing focuses more
specifically on utilising children’s literature in education. Finally, the issue closes with a short story
by Language Ambassador Barbora Kulikova. The piece, based in part on her grandfather’s life, re-
flects on what being a “true hero” means in times of conflict and tumult.
Hopefully, these articles prompt you to think about the family, friends, and moments that have in-
spired you to re-evaluate your own worldview or strive towards improvement. If any of the articles
seem like something you would be interested in writing, you are welcome to submit your work or
contact us with questions. Please take a look at the final page of the newsletter for more information.
Many thanks once again to David Brown of the CLE for his edits and suggestions.
Happy Year of the Dog!
