Afzal lives in every human heart: SAR Geelani
‘His blood has rejuvenated Kashmir movement’
MUDASIR YAQOOB
Srinagar, Feb 10: Stating that the execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru was “aimed at satisfying the collective conscience of a particular group in India and not the collective conscience of Indians”, Prof SAR Geelani termed Guru’s hanging as “a black blot on the face of Indian democracy.”
He was speaking at a one-day seminar organized by the Committee for Release of Political Prisoners (CRPP) at the Plenary Auditorium of the Indian Law Institute in New Delhi. The seminar was titled as ‘Martyrs, resistance and Kashmir’s road to freedom’, with speakers extending their moral support to Kashmiris.
President of the Committee SAR Geelani told Greater Kashmir over phone that the speakers including Prof Jagmohan (son of Bhagat Singh), Sujata Budro, Tripati Wahi, and General Secretary of Dal Khalsa Kunwarpal Singh extended their support to the
the struggle of Kashmiri people in their speeches.
“The seminar was organized in remembrance of Guru and rich tributes were paid to him. The oppression and atrocities committed against Guru were recalled during the seminar,” he said.
He said during the event, a Kashmir Pandit Inder Saleem along with his other team of artists organized a play depicting how Guru was ‘murdered’ to ‘satisfy the collective conscience of a particular group in India.’
“Some of the participants recited poems to pay tribute to Guru on his first anniversary,” he said. He said later a peaceful procession was taken out from the auditorium. A dharna was also staged at main gate of the Supreme Court to express resentment over the injustice done with Guru, he said.
