A new year.

A new adventure.

Years ago you left primary school and went straight to secondary school without so much a brief visit of your new school. This could make the pupils feel scared about starting comprehensive.

Luckily for children today things have changed. Meaning that there are transition days for the pupils. These transition days boost pupils confidence about starting comprehensive.

These days schools make more of an effort to help pupils make the transition from primary school to secondary school. The teachers from the secondary schools try very hard to make the pupils feel ready and comfortable about starting secondary school.

My first experience of going into comprehensive was exiting and scary for many reasons. It felt exiting because I experienced new lessons. I quite enjoyed art because it was my first time using oil pastels. It felt scary because I was worried that I would get lost looking for different places and rooms.

Some pupils favourite time of day at secondary school is lunch. It is amazing how you have so much choice such as chips, pizza, burgers, hotdogs and pasta.

The day you go up to secondary school you get a new system. Some pupils find this hard at first but soon get used to it. The new system includes paying with your finger for lunch and going to different places for lessons.

The Staff

The staff love to meet new pupils. Pupils never feel alone with staff around. If any pupil gets lost the staff and maybe some of the older pupils can help you find your way.

How did you feel coming into Cymer for the first time? “I felt that the school had a great atmosphere, and it was great to see the excitement and the buzz from the pupils in the corridors.”

Mrs. Seaton, Head of Year 7

What does it feel like to be the head of year 7? “ It’s a great job where I get to deal with different things everyday.”

How did you help year 7 pupils settle in ? “ Transition days, visits to the primary schools, talking to pupils on the yard, in the cafeteria and talking to other staff about year 7 and generally talking interest in every single pupil.

I’m very lucky to get to work with

such wonderful, interesting, amazing

and all around brilliant bunch of kids.”
