The Nightlife in Newport is great for students as there is something to suit everyone. Warehouse is a club with a more relaxing atmosphere and is a great place to start off the night. It serves food during the day and hosts popular events in the evening such as: quiz night; acoustic night; cocktail night and many more. If you like cocktails then Warehouse is especially great on Sundays as they have a ‘buy one get the other half price’ deal. Breeze nightclub is the place to go for big nights out such as Halloween and Bank holiday as they do cheap drink deals. The multi-band offer gets you get into Delilah's and Meze for £5, but on Wednesdays it is reduced to £3 for student night. Wednesday is usually the busiest night out of the week as the drinks are cheaper. Meze is the last club to close so this is usually the last stop of the night. It is a perfect nightclub for big groups with different music tastes as each of the two floors plays different types of music.

Newport is a great place for students to work hard and party hard, to meet new people, visit new places, and really make the most of the university

Newport- through the eyes of a student

Written By Tamsin Hilton

The University of South Wales Newport City Campus is becoming more and more popular with students all over the U.K due to its brilliant location and exciting nightlife.

Newport is perfectly situated for easy train journeys to other lively cities- it only takes 15 minutes to get to Cardiff and 20 minutes to get to Bristol. This provides plenty of opportunities to explore new places and meet new people. In under an hour you could be soaking up the sun at Barry Island and using the amusement arcades to relieve the university stresses of deadlines and exams. If you would prefer some retail therapy then take a 10 minute train journey to Cwmbran. There are a range of student discount cards for trains and buses so you can still have fun days out on a student budget! I would recommend getting a ‘UniGo’ bus pass and an NUS card to help save you money- both are available from the university.

Although it’s easy to get to different places from Newport, there is plenty to do in the city itself. The National Roman Legion Museum is a fascinating place if you want to engage with local history; or you could visit Tredegar House, a beautiful 17th century mansion, and stroll through the grounds. If history isn’t really your thing then a day out at Newport retail park might be; with shops, cafes, restaurants and a cinema it is the perfect place to socialize and let off some steam.
