Newport Comprehensive Land Use Plan The National Register of Historic Places & National Historic Landmarks The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is a federal program provided by the National Park Service, United States Department of Interior. The NRHP includes historic places that warrant preservation through meeting certain criteria. The National Park Service in turn helps the entries on the list receive preservation benefits and incentives. There are over 90,000 listed properties in the register, 66 of them are in Newport. Table 11-2 shows a list of all the places in Newport that are featured on the NRHP.
