Black Designers
An Exhibit dedicated solely to Black fashion designers is coming to the Musuem of FIT
The lack of diversity in the fashion world has been and continues to be an ongoing topic. Fashion's racial divid is one that can't be ignored. Of the 260 shows in last year's New York Fashion Week, only three with any global reach were by African American designers.
The Musuem of FIT is opening up an exhibt called Black Fashion Designers which will showcase the significant and often unrecognized impact that black designers have had on fashion. The exhibition will be the first in many years to highlight the global history of black
designers from the 1950's to the present. It will feature approximately 75 fashions by more than 60 designers.
The exhibit features designs from many influential designers, one of which is Ann Lowe, who is an American fashion designer and the first African American to become a noted fashion designer. There is a cell phone tour as you walk through that provides an overview of the exhibit along with any additional content about selected objects accompanied by commentary from the curators as well as input from notorious fashion designers such as Joe and Charlie Casey-Hayford, Eric Gaskins, Carl Jones and many more.
