Meet Ayanna Mcneil :

Society has evolved to a point where the internet is a part of our daily lives. People turn to the internet as a source of communication along with informational purpose and staying in the know. For New Yorker, Ayanna Mcneil, the internet is merely a non-escapable platform that disconnects us from the world. The 21 year old writer is on a mission to effectively use the internet to reclaim humanity with her new self reflective blog, Brainwash.

Brainwash is the new Do It Yourself blog that makes you want to get up and make a change. The site provides you with creative conversational content that serves as a way to provoke your thought process. From profiles, to articles on comfort zones, media diets, to life advice, everything written has something people can relate to and leave them self reflecting.

How long have you been writing ?.

I’ve been writing since I was like 8 or 9. I have full blown fictional stories about full on characters. My best friend and I in fourth grade would take school trips from our school in Queens and during the bus ride we would write stories. She’ll write half of it and then I’ll write half of it and she’ll draw some pictures and then I’ll write some more. Then in 5th grade, I wrote a full blown book for class so it's a legit hardcover book that I have. I’ve been writing for a long time, I used to write only fictional stories and it wasn't until high school that I started writing more non-fiction. Being an only child, I needed things to entertain myself with and writing was a good way to do that. You don’t need much to write, you just need paper and a pen.

" Stop aspiring and just do the work. Just do it. "

Who are some of your biggest influences for your writing ?

I think i take a lot of my inspiration just from writers that i see online. Not from any big name people but people who are able to take an idea and flush it out and make it into a whole story. Whether it be a simple idea or a complex idea and make you want to keep reading. I like writers who can write long form pieces about culture, specifically pop culture and make it interesting. I admire the people who can use their writing as their trademark and create whole worlds and bring you into their world for a little bit.
