New Yorkers that define themselves as artists must develop a drive that will push them through the art scene, creating enough unique content to put them on top. “Occupying the space that I'm in right now can at times be difficult to navigate, not only as a woman but most importantly, as a Black Woman. There are a lot of men in this industry, and it's easy to get overwhelmed by it. I guess that in itself is drive to keep working hard on my own” says Kelsey Lu, New York singer/song writer.

Aside from developing a drive, as an artist you must be able to have the ability to network. Having a connection to be able to share resources, materials and skills with is one of the most important things to a building a successful career.
