Potato chips are America’ s most ubiquitous snack food. But most people don’ t know that the chip was invented in 1853 in Saratoga. When a Moon ' s Lake House customer returned his potatoes, complaining they were too thick, cook George Crum sliced the next batch razor thin, fried them crispy, heavily salted them— and the rest is history. On Saturday, July 15, 2017, Saratoga will celebrate the potato chip’ s heritage at its Second Annual Chip Festival at the Saratoga Springs City Center.
