Largest Cohort Of Young People EVER!
While I was doing my research on something completely unrelated, I found an article which stated that our generation of young people is the largest in history.
I started thinking to myself, "Imagine the things we control as the largest youth population group in the history of the world - EVER!" Technology is basically our b!@*h! We’re the workforce! We contribute a significant amount to the World’s economy: music, clothes, cars, food! But we’re the one group that doesn’t really invest. South African people in general aren’t savers and investors and the youth… well, that’s why I started a little blog called FundBabies!
The "blog" took on a life of its own. As I spoke to my friends and family I realised that there are a lot of people who don't know about investment. Further, people don't invest because they fear the markets. They fear the way it looks and sounds. So I decided to create something that looked and sounded familiar to teach them about the Stock Market. This is how Fundbabies was born.
Then one thing led to another and I was interviewing entrepreneurs, young stars, experts and renowned South African artists. In the process, FundBabies became a brand and a voice for all the bright , stylish, creative young people to financial institutions.
FundBabies was also a documentation of my learning process. I never promised to know everything or to have all the answers, but I sure as hell was going to figure it out with you. I was creating a space where people were being smart about their choices and being responsible about their futures.
Our vision is about creating and fostering a culture. The culture would allow us all to be who we are, and also leave space to make "figuring out our finances" an important thing too. This kind of endeavour goes hand-in-hand with every other responsible way of living whether its environmentalism, human rights and healthy living.
The culture that FundBabies sought to create was all inclusive because we found that the current status quo around finance doesn't favour everyone. EVERYONE is welcome and everyone is given the opportunity to have their say at FundBabies. We have tried by all means to make FundBabies a fun, creative space for all people to have a good laugh about Investment while learning about it too.
My dream and my hope is that we will have a prosperous South Africa where everyone is financially free or at least has access to the tools that will help them become financially free.
Entrepreneurship is also a huge part of FundBabies. We wanted to showcase all of the young people who have chosen to invest in their dreams and talents. We found pioneers and dreamers - like us :). We have learnt so much from these people and we hope that you'll also learn something.
