the work the he did with the team during the season, this was very much appreciated and valued by all. Due to the communication that was formed between the teams we were able to have several players from other teams help us out when needed which was also greatly appreciated. It was a great year to be involved with the team and look forward to building on the foundations that we have created this year. This was a rebuilding year, with three senior players stepping into coaching and management roles. We also lost several senior players, and approximately half of the team were new to New Brighton rugby. The season started out in question, when we did not have a consistent group at trainings and weren’t sure who was going to turn up on any given Saturday. After a few weeks the team stabilised, however, and we found that we had a solid forward pack to build from, and a back line that could be devastating with ball in hand. As we began winning games, we realised that this could be our season to make it to the top four, and were serious contenders for the final. Throughout the first half of the season, we struggled to put together a front row, but with a bit of help from Roddy and the other divisions, we were usually able to put a team together. Toward the end of the season, we were able to add a prop recuperating from knee-surgery who joined our team and added stability to the group. Although we lost the challenge shield early in the season, we did well enough to make it into the top four of our division, but eventually lost the grand final to a strong Shirley side. Senior players Jeremy (Magoo) Maxwell and Michael (Woody) Woodrow were player/coaches and returning player Joseph (Rev) Flammer managed the side and saw some game time. An injured player, Corey Counihan, took over the team management in the second half of the season and excelled in that position. Joseph Flammer DIVISION FOUR
