They also remodeled the stairway with sleek cable railings and wooden handrails, and expanded the second floor, turning what was previously a large loft space into a master suite, wardrobe closet and attached bathroom.

While keeping to the basic footprint of the house, Sixteen on Center was able to grant each space a more contemporary feel. The homeowners adore the vibrant finishes within the kitchen, library and bathroom, and the thoughtful placement of windows provide them with refreshing views of their gardens and deck.
“ We guide the homeowners through material finishes in a way that allows them to express themselves while keeping the home cohesive and connected,” says Harris.“ It was nice to see that they understood these goals that we try to accomplish with each project.”
Harris and Strunk recently completed another project for the Little Compton residents, which involved enhancing the backyard with a brand-new deck and pergola. One of Harris’ favorite aspects of stepping foot inside a past project is seeing how the materials are holding up, how the space is functioning and how it continues to be appreciated.
“ One thing that stands out is the visual connection of the kitchen through the dining room and out to their grounds, like landscaping and the pool beyond,” says Harris.“ There’ s this interconnection between these exterior spaces and the layers of the interior space working together.”
Tying both projects together, the homeowners now have the space— both indoors and outdoors— to entertain loved ones
Sixteen On Center has always had a passion for understanding how things go together. It is that passion that translates to our design build method. The aptitude and patience to inquire and discover what works and what doesn’ t, allows us to apply our construction knowledge to our designs, and consequently, design knowledge and intent to our building practices. We have the great pleasure of seeing a project through from its inception on paper straight through completion on site. By beginning the process of meeting the client and discussing their needs and desires, we are able to follow that thought process as it transforms into detailed drawings, specifications of intended products, and assembling bids from our varied material suppliers and tradespeople. Once underway, we then get to see the project take shape physically, and can work to problem-solve conditions that crop up along the way. Through each step of the process our goal is to provide the client with a team of folks all working together to accomplish a fulfilling end result. throughout the seasons for years to come. ◆
