The double wall construction home has an air space in between the walls, allowing the thick walls to establish a more energy-efficient property.
The objective of the renovation was to convert a serviceable summer house into a more elegant year-round residence. The kitchen, dining and living spaces felt detached from each other, so Sixteen on Center aimed to unify the space by creating a more functional and dynamic layout. Changes to the downstairs area offered solutions for improving and updating the second-floor primary suite.
“ We took an existing structure and rethought the function’ s performance,” says Harris, who designed and managed the project.
When the team first arrived at the home, there was no clear indication of the entry point. The first order of business was to open up the space and create an entrance and mudroom. The kitchen and dining spaces were reimagined into an airy expanse instead of walled off rooms, igniting the start of a cohesive layout for the entire main floor.
