What was once a fragmented and underutilized landscape has been transformed into a layered and richly detailed outdoor environment that deepens the relationship between house, land and history. Set within the rural agrarian context of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts, this reimagined farmhouse landscape introduces a sequence of terraced outdoor rooms that respond to the site’ s natural topography and ecological setting. A fully integrated designbuild process guided the project from concept through construction, allowing for real-time responsiveness, continuity of vision and refined craftsmanship throughout. A cascading system of stone steps and terraces— largely constructed from salvaged on-site stone— navigates the grade while reinforcing the home’ s historic identity. Enclosed by native plantings selected for habitat value, seasonal interest and resilience, each terrace becomes its own immersive garden room while remaining part of a larger woodland narrative. Through careful grading, material reuse and a 100 percent native planting palette, the design honors the site’ s past while establishing a renewed and enduring connection between dwelling and land— an expression of craft, ecology and care.”
