ROOMS TO LOVE Spacious and Bright

FROM THE DESIGNER : “ Our clients purchased this new home in Jamestown to be closer to their daughter , and while it has breathtaking views , it was not their aesthetic . They prefer a light , neutral palette with pops of color , but the space pictured here originally had dark cherry floors and charcoal gray walls and ceilings . Because the tonal differences of the floors made them an unwanted focal point , we chose to sand and stain them in a light whitewash , brightening the space considerably and downplaying the contrast . We next opted for one of our go-to wall colors , Sherwin Williams Egret White , to replace the gray . It ’ s a wonderful tone that ’ s different enough from the trim to make the beautiful woodwork pop . For the furnishings , we chose light and creamy neutrals with varying textures . Due to the streaming sunlight , we recommended Inside Out fabric and used it where possible . We made structural changes , as well , starting with the removal of a closet at the top of the stairs to open the space and provide a view from the kitchen to the front door . We also swapped out traditional stained railings with painted balusters for white posts with stainless steel rods . Additionally , we added a transom window to the foyer wall to both break up the space and allow light into the adjacent office .”
