MATCH REQUIREMENTS
Grant funds must be met with a minimum of 20 % match of the total project costs . In general , the match can come in the form of cash , volunteer labor and / or donated or discounted professional services or materials . The full match requirement may be met solely with cash if the neighborhood chooses .
Funds in the amount of the cash match must be available in your neighborhood ’ s bank account at time of application . A statement or similar documentation showing the account balance is required .
Neighborhoods must provide at least 50 % of the total match requirement amount in cash . This requirement is waived for neighborhoods in census tracts where the Area Median Income is 100 % or less of the Arlington Area Median Income – see Cash Match Waiver section . The remaining 50 % can be cash or a combination of cash , volunteer labor , donated professional services , and / or donated materials .

Volunteer labor involves any physical or non-physical work conducted by neighbors to complete the project . The volunteer labor rate is $ 15 / hour . Documentation of volunteer hours worked is required for grant reporting . Pledge sheets are not required for the application , but it is recommended that the Team Lead collect commitments from volunteers when planning the project . Volunteer hours worked and signed volunteer waivers are required as part of the Final Closeout Report documentation substantiating volunteer labor contributed to the project . Volunteers may be comprised of neighbors within the neighborhood , volunteer groups , or other persons who volunteer toward accomplishing the approved grant project and receive no other compensation for the work completed as a volunteer .
Donated or Discounted Professional Services can be anything you will hire a professional to do , but for which they might offer to waive all or a portion of their usual fee . This includes work done by architects , landscape architects , engineers , sign contractors , electricians , etc . A letter or invoice on company letterhead documenting the usual fee and how much they are donating to the project is required for the application .
