Inspiring Local Youth
Next Step Ministry comes to this community with the mission to inspire lasting
change. There couldn’t be a better example of this inspired change then with the
Elyria Catholic “Seniors 4 Seniors” collaboration. The collaboration started in 2013
to bring high school senior volunteer groups out one day a month to help Lorain
County’s home bound senior citizens served by our Senior Nutrition Home
Delivered Meals Program. The students not only completed yard cleanup projects
but also visited with each of these seniors. They heard stories from decades past
and baked cookies with residents who normally would go months without visitors.
Motivated by the senior class other Elyria Catholic High School classes started
engaging with Neighborhood Alliance. Junior classes served meals to the homeless
at the Haven Center Homeless Shelter while sophomores and freshman organized
drives to engage their fellow students and families.
