What comes easy doesn’ t come free.
“ They are more than just teachers, they are my family!” Unlike his siblings living in this urban landscape, James chooses the structure of education over the alluring freedom of the streets. Only 15 years old, he finds shelter and love in the comfort of Neighborhood Alliance’ s Child Enrichment Center of Lorain. With dark brown curls and a bright smile James reflects on why he chooses to volunteer as a junior teacher’ s aide.
Coming to the Child Enrichment Center as a shy 3 year old, James enjoyed the handson attention he received. The second youngest of 6, he knows the path of bad decisions all too well. A present but struggling single mother, an older brother already in prison and his other siblings on a similar route, James knew his future could be written before it even started. Determined for something more, he asked if he could volunteer after school at the center... his home away from home. Born a natural leader, he now chooses to want more for himself. He wants to be a good example for his younger sibling and show that hard work pays off.
Just as the sun can grow a small seed into a beautiful tree, your generosity and support gives children like James a foundation to thrive upon. They are shown great examples through field trips, activities and projects that allow them to not only dream bigger but reach higher. for more information visit: www.
