2. What challenges did you face when starting your business, and how did you overcome them?
I am Jess Redfern, the Director of National Disability Care and I really appreciate these questions. It ' s not everyday we are prompted to really sit back and reflect on why we started and what it means.
1. Can you tell us about your journey in the NDIS sector and what inspired you to become an entrepreneur in this field?
I joined the NDIS sector after working as a teacher in a support education high school class. I saw firsthand how these students thrived when given the right tools and opportunities, but I also noticed the gaps in support outside the classroom. Many of them lacked a solid foundation at home to truly build on their potential. I wanted to change that. My passion for empowering others and improving quality of life led me to create National Disability Care. I believed there was a better way to support people with disabilities— by focusing on their abilities and opening doors to opportunities that encourage independence and confidence.
Starting in the NDIS sector was a learning curve. One of the biggest challenges was understanding the complexities of the NDIS system and ensuring our services truly addressed participant needs while meeting compliance requirements. Another challenge was earning trust in a sector where personalised care is so crucial. To overcome these, I focused on building strong relationships— both with participants and industry professionals— grounded in genuine care and transparency. I also invested in continuous learning for myself and my team, ensuring we were always adapting to changes in the sector.
3. What sets your business apart from others in the NDIS space?
At National Disability Care, we take a human-to-human approach. For us, it’ s not just about providing services; it’ s about building meaningful relationships. We go beyond the constraints of disabilities and focus on abilities, creating opportunities that are tailored to each individual ' s goals. Additionally, we emphasise a care-first mindset, fostering genuine connections and collaboration, not just transactional interactions. This approach has allowed us to create a community where participants feel truly supported and empowered to achieve their dreams.
