I cycled to and from work and for short local journeys throughout both my pregnancies, gradually becoming slower and more upright as the bump grew and my lung capacity shrunk. In neither pregnancy did I decide that a time had come when I needed to stop, but as it happened, both times I did my last pregnant bike ride at 39+1, and gave birth at 39+5.

Is cycling in pregnancy safe? There’s some conflicting advice out there and it can be hard to know what really applies to your situation. The main concerns are around the risk of falling and whether high-intensity exercise can harm the developing baby. However, pregnant women are encouraged to maintain gentle exercise and many find that cycling is a convenient and cheap way to do this.
