Biomed Class: D/SGT. Parks makes a special visit

Senior Montana Maher invited a special guest to the Biomed class recently. D/SGT. Parks visited with students and shared his background and training, as well as some fascinating case examples from our very own community! Students were riveted as he discussed the necessary consideration for evaluating a scene, how to prepare mentally so evidence is viewed with an objective perspective, and the importance of evaluating all the details. Students found the blood spatter patterns in one case particularly perplexing, as did the detective when he first evaluated the scene. After all aspects of the case and various scenarios were considered, the conclusion was that the ceiling fan had been on when the subject had received a gunshot wound, therefore compromising the natural blood spatter pattern that should have occurred. Students also learned about evaluating cases with fire and chemicals. Check back next month to see what this phenomenal grant funded class is studying next! Special thanks to the incredible science department and grant writer/curriculum director Amber White for pursuing this tremendous opportunity! This class is made possible with a $15,000.00 grant.
