NB Highlights December 2016 | Page 5

Dear North Branch Families,

It's that time of year again when most of us look around and see everything we have to be thankful for. Even with the shopping and rushing around we take time to appreciate what we may, at other times, take for granted. Not all families in our community are as fortunate as many of us. Many families will have very little under their Christmas tree and not enough food in the cupboard, especially this time of year. In the true spirit of the holiday season and with your help, the second graders would like to make a difference so they are coordinating this giving opportunity throughout the NBES.

For many years, at this time, we have asked for your help in a project the kids years ago entitled, "Kids helping Kids." Because of your generous contributions in the past, we have been very proud to collect an outstanding amount of items for our community.

Each Christmas season the Emergency Aid/Thrift Shop in North Branch puts together baskets for the needy people in our area. In a school wide effort, we would like to keep this tradition alive. We have been asked to focus on certain items this year. The items are:

*Oatmeal *Canned fruit and meat *Tuna Fish *Peanut Butter *Jelly *Juice

*Laundry Soap *Hand Soap *Kitchen Soap *Diapers *Baby Wipes

*Paper Products *Canned Goods *Nonperishable Foods *Brown or Plastic bags

THEY ARE NOT IN NEED OF TOYS, SO PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE THEM THIS YEAR.

We have started collecting items the first week of December, and we will be collecting your donations through December 16. You may send the items to school with your child. Thank you in advance for your generosity and kindness. It is always amazing for our kids to experinece this level of giving without receiving anything in return, but the warm feeling of helping others in need. We hope the joy of giving with be felt throughout our school family and community this Christmas season.

Sincerely,

NBES Second Grade Teachers
