6 . The contractor shall establish and maintain quality control for the construction of the wall to ensure compliance with contract requirements and maintain records of its quality control .
7 . All wall elevations , grades , and back slope conditions shall be verified by the engineer in the field for conformance with approved design plans . Any revisions to the structure geometry or design criteria shall require design modifications prior to proceeding with construction .
ENVIROLOK
In Figure 22 , you will notice the embedded base of the Envirolok wall , the geotextile bags , plantings and anchoring that were mentioned in the Materials and Preparation section .

The next step , once the base of the wall is installed , involves placement of additional layers of filled bags . The spikes are placed on the center of the first layer of bags . Bags are then placed parallel to the shoreline and slightly landward in accordance with the desired slope for the project site . Following the installation of a layer , the bags should be compacted and fill material placed landward behind the bags . Subsequent layers of Envirolok bags are installed similarly by placing spikes in the center of underlying bags , installing bags , compacting the bags , and filling in soil behind the bag layers . This process is repeated until the desired height and width of the Envirolok system is achieved . A geogrid layer can be placed level with each layer of bags along with fill material to provide additional reinforcement .
Planting should be done in accordance with the site design . If using live plantings , it is recommended to plant during the growing season ( March-November ) and place the plant materials between the respective bag layers during installation . However , they can also be incorporated post-installation of the bags . Bags should not be cut to place plants . Following installation , plants should also be incorporated into the uppermost level where fill soil is placed to prevent erosion behind the Envirolok system . An example of a finished product can be seen on the following page ( Figure 23 ).
