KICA Water Management

Flood Mitigation Takes a Big Step in 2020 , a Continuing Priority in 2021

By Emily Jenkins , Kiawah Island Community Association , Communication Department

In its best form , a community

association acts as a steward to maintain members ’ common property , such as Kiawah ’ s roads and leisure trails , but also as a mechanism for those members to come together to enact shared goals . In the last issue of Naturally Kiawah , KICA reported that this sentiment had taken the form of a yearlong effort by members , staff , and expert consultants to address flooding . Some of the most critical areas of the Island impacted by overflow are the arterial thoroughfares that property owners , visitors , and employees depend on every day to get to their homes and workplaces . In this issue , we are thrilled to report the task force ’ s success , both in effectively communicating the value of these projects to property owners and seeing the first of these projects through completion on schedule and under budget .
