Is there such a thing as a native invasive ? Not really . We may refer to it as a thug because it reproduces or expands in a single spot , but native plants are not considered invasive if they exist in their indigenous region . Try re-balancing your garden to include at least 70 percent native species and remove all invasives . For the latest information on plants invasive to South Carolina check out the South Carolina Native Plant Society at https :// scnps . org / education / invasivespecies and the Clemson Cooperative Extension Plant Pest Species of SC Booklet https :// www . se-eppc . org / southcarolina / Publications / InvasivePlantsBooklet . pdf .
Where to Find Native Plants You will occasionally find a few natives at various nurseries in Charleston County . Those businesses mentioned in the next column place an emphasis on growing and selling native plants and therefore , are more likely to carry those plants listed in the Grow Native Kiawah Island Plant Database . Please encourage local nurseries to carry more natives .
