Personal Safety and Security Reminders
The ApHC wants to remind everyone to have a safe and enjoyable show. Many of you
will be traveling long distances through unfamiliar places, and it pays to think ahead.
The following are things that you may already know, but now is a great time to read
over them again and discuss safety with your family. It is also a great time to check the
security measures you use to protect your belongings. Do what you can now to make
yourself and your family an unattractive target to thieves and criminals.
Be aware of your surroundings. If something doesn't look or feel right, trust your instincts.
Park and walk only in well-lit areas. Travel in pairs, especially at night.
Children should be with a responsible adult at all times.
Look for a hotel with 24-hour on-site security.
Don't carry large amounts of cash. Think about replaceable travelers' checks or debit
cards with fraud protection instead. Keep a list of credit card and bank contact numbers
in a separate place that you can use to cancel cards or accounts if necessary. Have a
back up plan in case your purse or wallet is stolen.
Purses, wallets, GPS devices, briefcases, bags, laptop computers or anything that looks
valuable should never be left in a vehicle or unattended area.
Spare wheels, tires and even whole trailers can be targeted by thieves. Locking the hitch
on your trailer and the spare on your truck w
