YEO NATIONAL CONVENING 2016 TYRON HARRIS School Board Member East Hartford, Connecticut Tyron Harris is a member of the East Hartford Board of Education. He is a lifelong resident of East Hartford, but graduated from Berkeley College in New York City in 2006, with a B.B.A. in general management and a minor in human resources. His focus is student achievement and fiscal stability. Harris is working to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed in high school, attend college, and succeed in life. He is committed to offering a comprehensive high school experience and providing each student support. DUNCAN HARRISON JR. Councilman Trenton, New Jersey Councilman Duncan Harrison Jr. is a strong advocate for empowering new leaders to engage in the political process. Elected on July 1, 2014, he serves as the councilman at-large for the City of Trenton, New Jersey. Duncan, at the age of 29, is the youngest elected African American in the City of Trenton’s 220 year history. In his professional life, Duncan is the associate executive director of UIH Family Partners. UIH is a nationally recognized pioneer in the emerging field of fatherhood programs. Duncan received his master’s in public administration from Bernard M. Baruch College, City University of New York. Duncan is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. @BelieveNTrenton TYRONE HENDRIX City Councilman Jackson, Mississippi Councilman Hendrix is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, and a product of Jackson public schools. Tyrone went to Jackson State University, earning a B.S. in psychology and a master of arts in political science. Hendrix’s life changed when his mother passed away when he was 13. He watched her struggle because she was unable to afford quality health care; this compelled him to commit himself to public service. As state director of Organizing for America, Hendrix organized grassroots support for the passage of the Affordable Care Act. Hendrix served as the deputy campaign manager for Johnny DuPree for Governor. He and his wife founded a grassroots political consulting firm that serves progressive causes and candidates. He serves as the chair of the Legislative and Rules Committees, vice chair of the Planning, Economic Development and Government Operations Committees, and sits on the Budget and Education/ Youth Ad-hoc Committees. Hendrix authored a minimum wage ordinance which ensures a wage increase for employees. YEO BIOS 53
