GARY HARDIE School Board Member
Lynwood , California
Gary Hardie was born and raised in Lynwood , California , and graduated from Lynwood High School in 2005 . He attended the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and Shaw University in Raleigh , N . C ., where he majored in English with a minor in marketing . Hardie is currently pursuing an MBA at Pepperdine University . Hardie works as a high school after-school site coordinator and serves as a vice president of the Lynwood Unified School District Board of Education . Sworn in at the age of 27 , Hardie is one of the youngest public officials serving in California , and serves as a member of the Lynwood Personnel Commission . Prior to pursuing a career in education , Hardie worked as an executive for the Los Angeles Clippers . He has an extensive background in athletics , having worked for the NBA , NFL , MLB , NHL , NCAA and for professional athletes such as Kobe Bryant , Lebron James , and Chris Paul .

Columbus , Ohio
Shannon Hardin joined the Columbus , Ohio , city council in October 2014 . As a former external affairs manager for the office of Mayor Michael B . Coleman , Councilmember Hardin led the development of the Columbus Volunteer Challenge , a partnership with the United Way of Central Ohio . Councilmember Hardin helped launch the Restoration Academy , an annual program that offers paid City of Columbus internships to restored citizens , many of whom go on to secure full-time employment with the city . Hardin also worked with the Columbus Urban League on the African American Male Initiative , which empowers men in the community with life-changing strategies in the areas of responsible fatherhood , youth mentorship , and ex-offender re-entry . Councilmember Hardin earned his bachelor ’ s degree from Morehouse College after studying abroad in Nairobi , Kenya . He was born and raised in Columbus and is a proud resident of the South Side .
NICHOLE G . HARRIS Mayor
Tutwiler , Mississippi
Nichole Harris is the mayor of the town of Tutwiler , where she has lived most of her life . Harris is a 1997 graduate of West Tallahatchie High School . After high school , she joined the army and received training as a personnel administrative specialist . Harris is a two-time graduate of Mississippi Valley State University , were she received a BS in biology and a master ’ s in education . She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc . and a 14-year educator who serves as the science department chair at West Tallahatchie High School . Nichole has served as a mentor and tutor at a local community center , an advocate for education , and as a GED instructor at the Tutwiler Community Education Center . Harris also has a passion for politics , helping with the campaign for the re-election of Congressmen Bennie Thompson before she ran for her own office .
