Josh Zakim
City Councilor
Boston, Massachusetts
Josh Zakim was elected to the Boston City Council on November 5,
2013. As chair of the Committee on Human Rights and Civil Rights, Josh
led the council’s efforts to address issues of equity and fairness. He
authored the Boston Trust Act to improve trust and cooperation between
immigrant communities and law enforcement. Zakim led a series of
hearings to investigate serious health and safety concerns faced by Boston
residents in rental housing, improving landlord accountability and maintenance. He successfully
introduced an ordinance extending protections for apartment tenants, whose homes are converted
to condominiums or co-ops, including increased financial safeguards for elderly, disabled, and lowincome tenants. Most recently, Zakim has convened hearings to address the challenges faced by
seniors in the LGBT community in finding affordable, welcoming housing. Zakim graduated from the
University of Pennsylvania and Northeastern University School of Law. @joshzakim
Claire Zautke
School Board Director
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Claire Zautke was elected to the Milwaukee Board of School Directors
in April 2013. Zautke has years of experience in issue and community
advocacy, in addition to working in the administration of Milwaukee
County. Zautke has also worked as a field director, volunteer coordinator,
and project consultant for community and faith-based organizations in
Milwaukee. Raised in the community she now represents, as the daughter
of a county employee and city of Milwaukee fireman, Zautke set the goal of a career in public service
at an early age. Zautke attended Milwaukee Public Schools before going on to graduate magna cum
laude from Carthage College with a B.A. in political science. She believes Milwaukee Public Schools
provided her with opportunities that no other schools could and will work hard to ensure that those
opportunities always exist for Milwaukee’s children. @ClaireZautke
