YEO Bios Michael Mizzoni School Board Member Littleton, Massachusetts Michael Mizzoni is a School Board Member on the Littleton School Committee. He is a lifelong resident of Littleton and a product of its schools. Mizzoni joined the student council in 4th grade and continued to be involved in student council through serving as student council president as a senior and class of 2007 co-president. After high school, Mizzoni went to UMass Lowell, where he continued his service in student government. Mizzoni was appointed by then-Governor Deval Patrick to represent all 265,000 students in public higher education on the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Mizzoni went on to pursue his J.D. from New England School of Law. Derwin L. Montgomery City Councilmember Winston-Salem, North Carolina Councilmember Derwin Montgomery became the youngest member of the City Council in 2009. He serves as the vice chair of the Public Works Committee and a member of the Public Safety Committee. Montgomery comes from humble beginnings: his father is a Baptist pastor and retired educator and his mother is a bookkeeper. As the youngest of three, he learned early the value of community. He is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University, an Eagle Scout, and member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. Montgomery currently serves as the Senior Pastor of the First Calvary Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, N.C., where he continues his outreach to the community. @JustDerwin Alfonso Morales School Board Member Lynwood, California YEO National Convening | 2015 77 Board Member Alfonso Morales Jr. is the son of immigrants. Following his high school graduation he attended Claremont McKenna College where he received his degree in literature with a legal sequence. He then attended the University of San Diego School of Law. Morales returned to Lynwood in 2004 following his legal education. He passed the California State bar exam on his first attempt and entered the legal field as a medical malpractice defense attorney. He changed fields in 2006 when he began to work for an immigration specialist. In March 2008, he opened the Law Offices of Alfonso Morales in Lynwood, where he practices Immigration law. He was elected school board member in 2005.
