Tribunal members are also actively involved in the communication and
stakeholder initiatives of the Tribunal and assist by making presentations
at various events.
Tribunal members operate in terms of guidelines set out in a Code of
Ethics and Confl ict of Interest Policy and, together with staff, adhere to a
common set of values.
Resumes of Tribunal members
Ms Diane Terblanche is the Chairperson of
the Tribunal. Ms Terblanche graduated from
the University of the Western Cape with BA and
LLB degrees. She was admitted as an attorney
in 1986, after which she continued her studies in
the USA, obtaining an LLM from the University
of Pennsylvania in 1988. Ms Terblanche has
worked for over twenty years in the fi elds of
human rights and consumer protection. She
has been involved in consumer protection in various capacities including
as a lobbyist, policy advisor, programme and organisational assessor
within South Africa and in other African countries. She has served as
CEO of the Consumer Institute of South Africa and Director of the Legal
Aid Clinic (UWC), amongst other positions. She has served as Divisional
Manager (Head) of Enforcement and Exemptions at the Competition
Commission, and as a member of the Competition Tribunal. Apart from
her role as Chairperson of the Tribunal, Ms Terblanche also serves on the
Medical Schemes Final Appeal Board, as a member of the Board and the
Final Appeal Committee of the Advertising Standards Authority of South
Africa, and on the Board of the Ombudsman for Banking Services.
