Chairperson’s report (continued)
The Tribunal is nearing the end of the fi rst fi ve years since its establishment. It has always been
constrained in its planning due to lack of precedent and information relevant to planning its
operations and adjudication requirements. As we come to the end of the fi rst fi ve-year period, and
the end of the fi rst term of the Tribunal members, the Tribunal intends to embark on a review of its
operations and adjudication processes in order to in form its planning and budgeting for the next
fi ve years. Central to planning for future growth is to engage in high level scenario planning and
the Tribunal therefore commissioned research in this respect. The results showed an S-curve,
suggesting that the number of cases will still increase in the future. Further research will be
imperative to provide more specifi c data for planning purposes to ensure that we are able to
maintain the high standards of service for which we strive.
In conclusion, my thanks go to all those who have assisted in the fulfi lment of the Tribunal’s mandate
over the year: our committed Tribunal members, those who give of their time and expertise on the
various committees established, our colleagues in the dti who provide assistance, and our hard-
working and dedicated Tribunal staff, suppliers and service providers. I am extremely grateful for
your efforts and want you to know that you are all greatly appreciated.
