Sophism , in particular , is reminiscent of the underlying rejection of the objective and defined truth of images in postmodernism , instead embracing the diversity of perspective through rational argument . Known to be accomplished orators , Sophists questioned the traditional conventions of Ancient Greece .

In both movements , a focus on relativism and skepticism featured heavily in the art and opinions expressed , with an emphasis on personal experiences of the artist and viewer . Both movements received backlash due to their unconventionality , however both aided in breaking down the divisions of society , with Sophists taking the first steps toward humanism and postmodernists embracing new forms of art . With a heavy emphasis on questioning authority and reflection on the surrounding world , the humanism and reflection in Ancient Greek philosophy linger in today ’ s world in more than just the physical .
