Arts

From the earliest art known to man –– 30,000-year-old cave paintings in Chauvet , France –– to contemporary work from artists like American Titus Kaphar , it is no stretch of the imagination to say that the field has come a long way . Spanning from the 8th Century BCE to 396 CE , classical art heavily influenced the evolution of art .
Art from Ancient Greece can be separated into four categories : painting , pottery , architecture , and sculpture . Though we know from ancient historians like Pliny and Pausanias that paneled paintings were some of the most common and well-respected forms of art , few survive . What remains of their paintings is on pottery , which was mass-produced and widely used for storage , transportation , and drinking . Evidence of intricate and detailed paintings remains on the face of certain amphora vases , and this tradition has paved the way for contemporary ceramics .
Doric , Ionic , and Corinthian columns , a staple of Ancient Greek architecture , have been used in western architecture for thousands of years . Other popular facets of architecture , including domes and arches , are featured in buildings such as the White House , Buckingham Palace , and L ’ Arc De Triomphe .
