In the last two years, Stoll has noticed an increase of rooftop tent trailers around the state of South Carolina, and decided to build a prototype. “I built a prototype,” Brad Stoll says, “just as a fun project that my family could use. People liked it, so we decided to take it a bit further.” While rooftop tent trailers are generally aimed specifically at the RV market, Stoll thought the 2019 NATDA Trade Show & Convention would be a good barometer to test the interest in his newest brand – HOOOROO. The name, chosen with the help of his daughter, translates to ‘See you later’ in Australian slang. He stuck with the Australian theme for the names of his models with “Joey” and “Boomer,” both of which he brought to the annual trade show. 60 models – the Joey, the Boomer and Boomer XL.” The Joey, an off-road camping trailer aimed at the overland market, is self-contained, outside of having a toilet. It is equipped with a 40-gallon water tank, a hot-water heater, an exterior shower, a kitchen and a stove, and allows someone to “stay anywhere for a week – campsite or no campsite.” “Kayakers use it. The mountain bike crowd – it’s perfect for them,” Stoll says of the trailer’s potential demographic. “It appeals to a wide range of people, especially millennials.” For the next generation of outdoors enthusiasts, there’s a need for “something more simplistic and more affordable than buying a big RV.” The Joey, which can be pulled with almost any vehicle due to its light tongue weight, makes that a realistic option.
