The talk will provide an overview of the basic principles of contracts
focusing on architectural design contract, the requisites of a valid
contract and its essential provisions in relation to Republic Act No.
9266. Tips on drafting contracts will also be discussed based on
the common disputes between architect and client as decided by
the Supreme Court.

Arch. Marlon Cariño graduated from
the UST College of Architecture 1996,
and took the National Licensure
Examinations the following year
and passed it. Then he practiced
architecture and joined the academe
-- until he took the Philippines bar
exams and became an attorney-atlaw in 2009, after he completed his
studies in Law at the Far Eastern
University and his Master of Business
Administration - Juris Doctor at the
Graduate School of Business of the
De La Salle University in May 2008.

and Engineers and
their building industry
experiences in Saudi
Arabia. He would also
explore and expound
on the role of GAATES
organization and how
to improve the Universal Design for all.

Laws: It’s All Greek to Me
Marlon M. Carino, UAP
To date, he has taught part-time at the University
of Santo Tomas College of Architecture in 2012,
as well as being currently a part-time Associate
Professor at the Mapua Institute of Technology while
also working as a Design Consultant for a realty
company. Simultaneously, he has risen from being
a Legal Researcher to being an Associate Lawyer
in various law offices, and is now an incumbent
legal consultant for the United Architects of the
Philippines. He is professionally affiliated as a
Member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, the
United Architects of the Philippines, the Philippine
Institute of Arbitrators and the Chartered Inst itute
of Arbitrators.
Arch. Mukhtar AlShibani is currently President of the Global Alliance
on Accessible Technologies and Environments (GAATES), having
previously served a 3-year term as Vice President. He is a Board
Member of the Saudi Council of Engineers, of the Saudi Umran
Society, and of The Saudi Canadian Business Council. Alongside
his active membership in the International Union of Architects, he
continues to work with the Arab Urban Development Institute and
the Prince Salman Center for Disability Research and the Saudi
Umran Society as an Access Consultant. Mukhtar has shared his
knowledge of universal design and accessibility, having been a
visiting lecturer at a number of architectural colleges in Saudi Arabia.
As part of this, he established his own firm, Almodon Engineering
Consultancy, the first consulting office specialized in accessibility in
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and The Arab region, in Riyadh. The
opening of his office coincided with the beginning period of the
Arab world in dealing with the needs of people with disabilities with
respect to the built environment. Mukhtar has a Masters degree in
architecture from the College of Architecture King Saud University,
Riyadh, KSA where his dissertation was on the Design Criteria for the
Disabled in the Saudi Built Environment. He obtained his Bachelor
in Architecture from the College of Engineering Architecture
Department of Riyadh University, KSA.
