37th UAP NATIONAL CONVENTION ARCHITECTURAL TOURS
Architectural tour is inclusive of the 37th UAP National Convention on April 27-30, 2011 at SMX Convention Center, Seashell Drive, Pasay
City, Manila Philippines. This is one of the highlights of the annual gathering of Filipino architects in which heritage structures and modern
architectural designs will be visited by delegates who come from the from different parts of the country.
The four (4) tour packages are 1. Architectural Tour of Bonifacio Global City in Taguig and Architectural Heritage Tours; 2. Art Deco
Tour - by Arch. Noche; 3. FEU/Gota de Leche Tour - by Arch. Augusto Villalon and 4. Quiapo/San Sebastian Church - Dr. Fernando
Zialcita and Ms. Tina Paterno.
1) ARCHITECTURAL TOUR OF BONIFACIO GLOBAL CITY
What used to be the national headquarters of the Philippine Army (AFP) located in Taguig City, Fort Andres
Bonifacio is now one of the country’s progressive, sustainable cities in the heart of Metropolitan Manila. In April
2003, Ayala Land, Inc. and Evergreen Holdings Inc. of the Campos Group of Companies completed the acquisition of
a controlling interest in FBDC. Together with the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) as major partner
in FBDC, they now shape the vision of this premier business district. Ayala Land provides its expertise in pioneering
and sustaining successful business districts and large-scale integrated communities, starting with the Makati
Central Business District.
1. Integrated and Front-loaded Planning and Design where collaboration between multiple disciplines -- developer,
architects, planners, engineers, major contractors, other key team members, and stakeholders -- become
involved at the start of a project.
2. Green Infrastructure, or a strategically planned and managed network of habitats, parks, greenways,
conservation easements, and working lands, combined with Centers for Concentrated Mixed Uses that help
generate traffic (human) necessary to keep retail centers vital and put the center in town center.
3. Diverse Housing Types -- a mix of housing types, price points, and uses offering a more vital and diverse
community. Sustainable cities must have housing opportunities for a
demographically diverse population.
The tour continues with a short walk from the far end of Bonifacio High
Street, a 400-meter long commercial strip on both sides of a linear, interactive
park, until the opposite end across from Serendra, Essensa, and McKinley Hill
to name a few.
The Bonifacio High Street is one of the newest commercial areas at the
Bonifacio Global City (BGC). Several retail shops and dining establishments
have already started their operations at the Bonifacio High Street. Condo unit
owners will definitely enjoy this newest commercial area in the metropolis!
Architectural Heritage Tours:
The Philippines during the turn of the 20th century was a hotbed of architectural innovation and adaptation.
Embracing mostly European and later American forms of architecture through transforming it into an all-weather
Filipino variant, architecture in the country provided not just a convenient means of providing shelter to a vast and
varied activity, but at times became the principal by-word of one’s personal, political, social and economic
expression. With the Art Nouveau firmly behind it, and Beaux Art introduced by the Americans firmly established, a
need for a new and exciting architectural language was necessitated by a much rejuvenated, invigorated and vibrant
carefree society. By the second decade of the 20th century, a new architectural form manifested and enveloped
itself in Philippine Soil. ART DECO was introduced, adopted and born.
