more than the previous year. This is thanks to a greater number of visitors and prospective members at our monthly games. We had fewer players at our away games, but the numbers increased over the course of this year when we played our games in and around Durban. Unfortunately we had 2 depleted fields when there was continuous rain before and during the match day. Golf carts were banned at our Mount Edgecombe game, which substantially reduced the number of players.
4. FINANCES
Michelle Burmester became our new treasurer after Frans Kemper retired. We receive monthly reports in time for our committee meetings with up todate financial records. The club has made a loss this year, but costs were balanced from our reserves.
We have changed some of our venues and negotiated better competitive rates from golf club on the 2018 / 19 playing year in order to reduce costs to balance the books. We have also commenced with monthly game sponsors, which will boost our coffers.
5. HANDICAPPING
Garth Enslin still has a huge passion for Nomads and follows up to ensure that all scores are entered on a monthly basis into his trusty A4 Croxley exercise book, with a cross reference to the Samson System. His meticulous record keeping of individual golfers ensures that awards and presentations are presented at the correct time.
6. PRO: SPONSORSHIP & MARKETING
Ross Alleson’ s enthusiasm within this portfolio has not diminished and has been a great asset to our Natal Nomads Club. He has introduced new sponsors to Natal Nomads, which has increased sponsored prizes for our monthly games. The manufacture of tee box banners for our sponsor’ s advert has been completed, which will be displayed at our monthly games. Ross has encouraged a number of people to sponsor monthly golf games, which will increase revenue and also give exposure to the sponsor’ s exposure of their products and services.
Unfortunately Ross is not available for this portfolio for the next year. I wish to thank him for his efforts this year.
7. NEWSLETTERS( BELLSHEETS)
Mike McKenna has retired from this portfolio and this post has been accepted by Arnold Neveling who is preparing the monthly Bell Sheet, which is of general information of interest. Arnold Neveling has set up our new local Natal Nomads webpage, which is very informative. I wish to thank him for the extra time he has spent on this difficult project.
8. FURTHERANCE OF GOLF
Mark Burmester still runs this portfolio this year with passion. Mark continually pushes to raise more money for the junior golf tournaments. Mark has accepted the position of the Nomads National Golf Coordinator, which he has taken over from Ken Walker. Mark, will remain on our FOG Natal Committee portfolio.
9. GOLFORAMA AND AWAY TOURS
John Elliott has done an outstanding job coordinating these two portfolios. John has had to organise volunteers to marshal the Vodacom Origin Golf at Zimbali cc and the Sibaya Challenge and at Mount Edgecombe. John has had difficulty arranging volunteers to assist, as these tournaments are held during the week and not over the weekends as previously done.
John Elliott and Butch Armitage assisted at the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City in December 2017.
John Elliott has also been organising the away tours to our neighbouring states, where 14 Natal Nomads attended. Zimbabwe Nationals, Botswana Nationals, Swaziland Nationals, Northern 30 th and Free State 25 th Anniversaries.
I was fortunate to be able attend the Australian Nationals in October 2017, as part of the South African contingent.
10. ANDREW MENTIS DEVELOPMEMT FUND( AMEF)
Our Vice Captain, Greg Graham, worked extremely hard with his team to raise sponsorship for his chosen charity, The Quad Para Association of Kwa-Zulu Natal 004-338-NPO. The Quad Para Association of KwaZulu Natal is a non-governmental organisation that aims to deliver life changing
