Making a Difference: Marc Malvizzi Has More
Than 30 Years Experience as a Firefighter
“As corny as it may sound, my
interest in fire service started
with the TV show from the
70s — Emergency.”
Eastern Penn Electrical Division
Manager and NAED Eastern Region Vice
President Marc Malvizzi has a second
career as a volunteer firefighter. He
has been with the Laflin Borough Fire
Department for 34 years and has spent
the past 14 as the Fire Chief. Malvizzi
has also served as the borough’s
emergency management coordinator
since 1985.
His interest in the fire department
began when he was just a child. “As
corny as it may sound, my interest in
fire service started with the TV show
from the 70s – Emergency,” Malvizzi
said. “I watched week after week as
they rushed to the scene to
help people.”
Malvizzi joined the Laflin
Fire Department in 1980
and even met his wife,
Deb, during an Emergency
Medical Technician class.
“When I first joined the fire
department, everything in
my life seemed to revolve
around the fire house,”
Malvizzi commented. “My
wife and I even built our home next
door to the station.”
With more than 30 years in emergency
management, Malvizzi has seen the
shock and the pain accident victims go
through. And, he has tried to limit the
damage done to those impacted
by emergencies such as fire, flood
and motor vehicle accidents.
The next generation of Malvizzi’s
is already learning the fire trade
as his two youngest sons have
started volunteering. “I hope
they find it rewarding and a
great learning experience. The
6
difference it has made in my life is
immeasurable.”
Volunteering in the community is
important to Malvizzi. “I would like to
encourage everyone to get involved
in your communities,” commented
Malvizzi. “Your local fire department,
the Red Cross, or one of hundreds of
organizations could use the gift of your
time and talent.”
