Roxborough
Once an estate, with its great house called Roxbro Castle, this small community in Manchester is of
historical significance being the birthplace of Jamaica’s former Prime Minister and National Hero, the Right
Excellent Norman Washington Manley. His father had purchased a portion of the estate, and it was here in
1893 that Norman Manley was born and raised, until 1903. Although destroyed by fire in 1968, it remains
a place of historic importance and being the birthplace of the “Father of the Nation”, plans are under way
to have it restored to its former glory.
