Fort Christian
Located in the history-rich town of
Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas, Fort
Christian was built by the Danes in 1672 as
a fortress and today houses some of the US
Virgin Islands finest colonial artifacts. The
Fort also holds other exhibits that display
Caribbean history from the Stone Age to
the present and include a fine display of
Dutch antiques.

Hassel Island
Located just off St Thomas’ harbor was
once part of a peninsular. The Danish
first cut a channel separating the island
from the mainland to improve water
circulation in the harbor which was later
widened by the US in 1919. Today this
is a popular island for visitors to explore
with the aid of a kayak.

Blackbeard’s Castle
(Skytsborg Tower)
Although Skytsborg Tower is often referred to
as Blackbeard’s Castle, there is no indication
that Edward Teach (Blackbeard) actually
had any dealings with it although he was
certainly known to prowl the nearby waters.
This defensive tower was built by the Danish
in 1679 but today still offers fantastic views
of the Caribbean waters and has a swimming
pool and snack bar to cater to visitor’s needs.
